Barış Atay steps down from TİP Deputy Chairmanship and Central Executive Committee membership

The Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Party Assembly and Central Executive Committee (MYK) met consecutively to evaluate the domestic and foreign political situation.

In the results document shared with the public after the meeting, it was emphasized that "the struggle for the restoration of Can Atalay's usurped freedom and legal rights will continue," and it was announced that Barış Atay would not serve on the MYK in the new term at his own request.

Following the consecutive meetings of the Party Assembly and the Central Executive Committee, the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) published an 8-point results document evaluating the political situation in the world and Turkey, as well as the progress of party activities.

The document stated the following in summary:

'THE NORMALIZATION PROCESS WAS AN ILLUSION'

It was stated that the expectation of "normalization" that emerged after the March 31 elections ended in a short time, as the party had predicted. It was expressed that the government's attitude, especially during the process of passing the bill regarding the slaughter of stray animals through Parliament, showed that this "normalization" process was an illusion. It was argued that such rhetoric was put forward solely to buy time for the AKP government.

A NEW FOCUS MUST BE CREATED ON THE LEFT

In the document, which evaluated the AKP's efforts to design political parties that displayed a different political composition before the March 31 elections into a new generation, it was stated that the transfer of deputies from parties such as the Saadet Party, DEVA Party, and Future Party (Gelecek Partisi), and the encouragement of new nationalist formations to be carved out of the İYİ Party, were within this scope. TİP emphasized that these initiatives aim to weaken the opposition bloc and disperse the composition against the Palace. TİP announced that it would evaluate opportunities to create a new focus on the left through itself and its potential alliances.

THE CAMPAIGN ON MINIMUM WAGE AND IMPOVERISHMENT WILL CONTINUE

Stating that the minimum wage work found positive echoes among laborers, TİP announced that this work would be continued and that steps would be taken to make the ties gained by local organizations in this field permanent. Furthermore, it expressed that they found the struggle they carried out as a party during the process of passing the law regarding the slaughter of stray animals through Parliament to be inspiring. TİP announced that they would initiate a new struggle process against any kind of violence directed at animal friends.

LEGAL STRUGGLE FOR CAN ATALAY CONTINUES

Criticizing the Constitutional Court's (AYM) decision regarding Can Atalay, TİP argued that this decision is a sign that the law has been rendered inoperable and of the fascist character of the Palace government. It was stated that the party would continue to fight for the restoration of Can Atalay's usurped freedom and legal rights.

WE STAND WITH THE PEOPLE OF PALESTINE

Condemning Israel's massacres against Palestine, TİP stated that they stand with the resistance of the Palestinian people. It expressed that they would raise the demand for the brotherhood of peoples and peace on a national and international scale against the increasing danger of war.

STATEMENT FROM BARIŞ ATAY

Barış Atay described the resignation news on social media as "fabricated," saying, "I have not resigned from the Workers' Party of Turkey. I am still a member. I have completed my term as Deputy Chairman and member of the Central Executive Committee. A new central executive committee has been elected. I wish the new friends success and I will continue my life as a party member."

Atay announced that his parliamentary term has ended and he will return to his acting and directing career. Emphasizing that this does not mean leaving a struggle halfway, Atay said, "If a doctor or lawyer returns to their job after their parliamentary term ends, I will also return to my profession. This is not withdrawing from the struggle. It is not possible to disconnect from politics in Turkey," he stated.

Barış Atay also responded to allegations that he resigned from the party or had disagreements with the party. Atay said, "No one is purging me. There may be issues we do not agree on, but comradeship is struggling together. There is no need to believe any speculative news," he said.
