Following the appointment of a trustee to the CHP-run Esenyurt Municipality, trustees have now been appointed to 3 more municipalities.
The Ministry of Interior announced that trustees have been appointed to the Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti municipalities, which are under the administration of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party).
Following the decision, Batman Mayor Gülistan Sönük reacted to the ruling via social media.
Sönük stated the following:
"Our municipality, which we won in the March 31 elections with the highest vote percentage across Turkey through the efforts of women, youth, and our people, has been usurped as of this morning without any notification being served to us. We have not accepted and will not accept this regime of plunder and usurpation. Municipalities belong to the people."
