The People's Alliance has accelerated its efforts regarding the cooperation to be carried out in the local elections. It is alleged that "cooperation in the local elections was also discussed" during the meeting between AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and HÜDA PAR Chairman Zekeriya Yapıcıoğlu.
In this context, it is being discussed that in the local elections planned to be held on March 31, 2024, the AKP may "go into cooperation" with HÜDA PAR, the New Welfare Party (YRP), and the DSP, just as it did in the presidential and parliamentary elections, in addition to its cooperation with the MHP. It is noted that the May 14 elections will be taken as a basis for potential cooperation with these parties.
According to the report by Selda Güneysu from Cumhuriyet; while Israel's attacks on Gaza were discussed during the meeting between Erdoğan and Yapıcıoğlu, the "Great Palestine Rally," organized by the AKP Istanbul Provincial Presidency for tomorrow and which President Erdoğan and MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli will also attend, was also on the agenda.
It is alleged that Erdoğan conveyed that "intense diplomacy is being conducted to stop the attacks on Gaza, that the attacks on Gaza must stop, and that the rally is important in this sense." While it is also stated that Erdoğan informed Yapıcıoğlu that no political party flags other than the Turkish flag should be carried at the rally, it is noted that the AKP may "open the door to cooperation with HÜDA PAR" in the local elections, just as it did in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
IT HAD EXCEEDED 2 PERCENT
Behind-the-scenes, it is being discussed that the AKP wants to carry out this cooperation primarily in "eastern provinces where HÜDA PAR has influence, such as Batman, Siirt, and Bitlis." In this context, it is stated that HÜDA PAR "exceeded a 2 percent vote share" in provinces such as Mardin and Şırnak, as well as Bingöl, in the 2018 general elections, and that it received a 1 percent vote share in Şanlıurfa, Elazığ, Muş, Adıyaman, Siirt, and Bitlis, in addition to these three cities. While it is stated that HÜDA PAR will "support the AKP's candidate" in these provinces, it is noted that "HÜDA PAR may also field candidates in some districts in provinces like Batman, where it has a member of parliament."
