Behind the Scenes: CHP may withdraw its candidate in that Istanbul district! The striking DEM Party detail...

It has been claimed that the Republican People's Party (CHP) may withdraw its candidate for Istanbul's Esenyurt district, Ali Gökmen, where the DEM Party holds significant influence.

There is less than 2 months left until the March 31, 2024 local elections. As the critical elections approach, a striking claim has been put forward.

According to a report by Gazete Duvar; the CHP may withdraw Ali Gökmen, whom it nominated as its candidate in Istanbul's Esenyurt, where the DEM Party is strong.

If the ongoing negotiations between the two parties yield results, it is on the agenda for another CHP member, approved by the DEM Party, to become the Esenyurt candidate.

Party sources, stating that the negotiations are continuing, indicated that Ali Gökmen could be withdrawn from candidacy depending on the outcome of these talks.

In the last Party Assembly (PM) meeting, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had stated that the mayoral candidates for Esenyurt and Adalar were candidates who could be withdrawn and that the situation would become clear based on the negotiations held.

DEM Party Spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan will provide information regarding the current status of the "Urban Consensus" (Kent Uzlaşısı) negotiations at a press conference she will hold today (February 17) at 14:00.

BARIŞ YARKADAŞ GAVE A NAME FOR THE ESENYURT CANDIDACY

On the other hand, journalist Barış Yarkadaş, known for his proximity to the CHP, announced that CHP Istanbul Esenyurt Mayoral Candidate Ali Gökmen has withdrawn from his candidacy.

Yarkadaş claimed that the name of İsmail Topkaya, a member of the CHP Istanbul Provincial Legal Commission, is being mentioned for the candidacy left vacant by Gökmen.
