'Blue Homeland' polemic between Hulusi Akar and Murat Emir

A 'Blue Homeland' debate took place in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) between AKP MP Hulusi Akar and CHP MPs. Akar stated, "The 'Blue Homeland' is not a fairy tale. To characterize our state's protection of our rights and interests, with its military and civilians showing every kind of heroism and sacrifice, as a fairy tale is truly a great negligence and a great misfortune."

The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Speaker of Parliament Celal Adan to continue deliberations on the 17-article 'Draft Law on Amendments to the Animal Protection Law', which includes regulations regarding stray animals.

Taking the floor during the non-agenda speeches section, AK Party Kayseri MP Hulusi Akar reacted to the remarks made by CHP Istanbul MP Namık Tan regarding the 'Blue Homeland'.

THE BLUE HOMELAND IS AN INSEPARABLE WHOLE

Akar said, "The motherland, the sky homeland, the blue homeland, and the sisterland are an inseparable whole; they cannot be separated or divided. The fate of those who want to divide them is well-known. Some of them drowned in the seas, others were buried in pits in the mountains. The Blue Homeland is our rights and interests above and below our seas in the Black Sea, the Mediterranean, and the Aegean, including our territorial waters, continental shelf, and maritime jurisdiction areas; in other words, it is our 'Misak-ı Milli' (National Pact) at sea, it is a national issue."

Stating that the Blue Homeland is a clear reality with its 12 thousand kilometers of coastline and 462 thousand square kilometers of maritime area, Akar said, "The Blue Homeland is not a fairy tale. We are operating in an environment where many states, near and far, are making every effort to benefit from the opportunities and possibilities in our inland seas. The UAVs, armed UAVs, our TCG Anadolu, and other Turkish defense industry products we use during these missions are truly not a fairy tale, they are the realities of our lives. To characterize our state's protection of our rights and interests, with its military and civilians showing every kind of heroism and sacrifice, as a fairy tale is truly a great negligence and a great misfortune. Especially for this to be voiced by a deputy who has served in the foreign ministry for years is truly mind-boggling, and I believe that many of our CHP deputy colleagues share the same views as us. A fairy tale has various elements. None of these elements apply to the Blue Homeland. What does it mean to characterize the Blue Homeland as a fairy tale, to call the Blue Homeland a 'fairy tale'? It is to prevent Turkey from becoming a maritime power. It is to imprison Turkey in the Gulf of Antalya. It is to cut off maritime transport with the world and with friendly and brotherly countries, and to destroy our historical gains and our solidarity and cooperation," he said.

WE ARE PURSUING THE BLUE HOMELAND

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Murat Emir said, "First of all, let us state that as the founding party of this Republic, we are pursuing and supporting our homeland, our Blue Homeland, and our sky homeland. Let no one worry. You will receive the answer you are looking for from the CHP headquarters at these hours. But look, if our honorable pasha has come here and brought up these issues, let's discuss them immediately. I will ask questions, let him come and explain. My honorable pasha; you served as Chief of General Staff, you served as Minister of Defense. Sisi staged a coup. The world condemned the coup; but the Erdoğan government built its entire issue on Sisi. We fought with Egypt, everyone made an agreement with Egypt, Erdoğan did not make an agreement with Egypt. He said, 'What will I talk to Sisi about?', he said 'Rabia Square', and we lost our relations with Egypt. But what happened now? You ate your words, you made an agreement with Sisi; but what happened? You are late, you are late. The Blue Homeland slipped away. Greece made an agreement with Egypt," he said.

DO NOT SPEAK FROM WHERE YOU ARE SITTING

Taking the floor again after Murat Emir's statements, Hulusi Akar stated that he was addressing them in a polite manner without using 'you' or 'I', while lashing out at the CHP members who reacted to him by saying, "Listen, do not speak from where you are sitting." Upon the opposition MPs continuing their reaction by banging on their desks, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Adan intervened and warned the MPs. Continuing his speech, Akar said, "From the beginning, I have presented the facts and the ideas that I believe some of our CHP colleagues also share to your attention here in a calm manner. There is nothing to get offended, shout, or yell about here. We are talking about a national issue and we are talking about our cooperation. You need to see this. If there is anything to add, we are ready to talk," he expressed.
