Today, Turkey has been discussing the 'newborn gang,' the hospitals they contracted with, the political connections of the hospital owners, and the scandals within the hospitals.
CHP leader Özgür Özel announced in a statement on his X account this evening that he has appointed a delegation regarding the 'newborn gang' on Turkey's agenda.
THEY HAVE SET OFF
Following Özel's announcement of the delegation, we reached out to CHP İstanbul Provincial Women's Branch President Hatice Selli Dursun. Regarding the delegation, Dursun said, "We have consulted with our deputies and deputy chairmen. They are setting off tonight and will arrive in Istanbul tomorrow."
'THE RESULT OF PRIVATIZATION IN HEALTHCARE'
Stating that they are addressing this as a comprehensive 'Health Scandal of the Century,' Selli said, "This is an issue brought about by the privatization of healthcare in the century of Turkey. It has manifested itself in this way on newborns, on defenseless baby bodies. We are at the point that it must be addressed in this context. Therefore, after the delegation arrives here, we will evaluate this process comprehensively and display our stance accordingly."
The CHP delegation will discuss what actions to take during their meeting in Istanbul.
The delegation includes CHP Deputy Chairmen Zeliha Aksaz Şahbaz and Gamze Taşcıer, as well as deputies Aylin Yaman, Kayıhan Pala, Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi, Turan Taşkın Özer, Murat Çan, and Ali Karaoba.
'THEY HAVE BEGUN THEIR WORK'
CHP leader Özgür Özel had stated the following in his announcement on his X account regarding the 'newborn gang' delegation:
"A delegation consisting of our Deputy Chairmen Zeliha Aksaz Şahbaz and Gamze Taşcıer, and our deputies Aylin Yaman, Kayıhan Pala, Gamze Akkuş İlgezdi, Turan Taşkın Özer, Murat Çan, and Ali Karaoba has been appointed to examine and investigate the grave events regarding newborn baby deaths. Our delegation has immediately begun its work."
WHAT HAPPENED?
In Istanbul, a gang known in the public eye as the "newborn gang" was caught after it was determined that they acted in collusion with some 112 Emergency Call Center employees to refer sick babies to the neonatal units of private hospitals they had agreements with, causing the deaths of at least 10 babies. The indictment regarding the incident includes 47 suspects, 22 of whom have been arrested.
