NEW APPLICATION FILED

While developments are being followed closely, DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan, who answered journalists' questions after making statements regarding the agenda at his party's TBMM Group Meeting, announced that they had filed an application for a visit to Imralı.

Bakırhan said, “A great opportunity has emerged for a democratic, equal, and fair Syria where the statuses of peoples are recognized. The call for a democratic society has left its mark on the agreement in Syria and the peace process in Turkey. However, before the ink on this agreement had even dried, a transitional constitution that ignores the peoples and faiths in Syria was put into effect. They prepared a Syrian transitional constitution; this is an attempt to drag Syria into a new darkness. They announced a draft through a temporary commission they established in 15 days. They did not consult with Kurds, Alevis, Syriacs, or Druze... Can this constitution be inclusive??”

"WILL THEY REMAIN IN PRISON FOREVER?"

Answering journalists' questions after his speech, Tuncer Bakırhan reacted to the statements of Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç. Criticizing Minister Tunç's statements regarding the 'right to hope', Bakırhan used the following expressions:

"Where does the Minister of Justice stand in this process? The statements he makes harm the process. The right to hope is a right; will people remain in prison forever?"
