STATEMENT FROM MINISTER TUNÇ: DECISIONS CAN BE MADE WITHOUT WAITING FOR THE REPORT

Participating in a live broadcast on NTV, Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç made assessments regarding the health condition of the imprisoned mayor, Murat Çalık. Reminding that Çalık is currently under treatment in the hospital, Tunç stated that the process is continuing with both health and judicial aspects.

ALL EYES ON THE FORENSIC MEDICINE REPORT

Minister Tunç stated that Çalık had expressed his health issues while in custody and used the following expressions:

“Following the examinations, reports were sent to the Council of Forensic Medicine. After conducting a preliminary assessment, the Forensic Medicine requested that some tests be repeated. For this reason, it was decided that Mehmet Murat Çalık should remain under observation in the hospital. When the examination process is completed, the Forensic Medicine will make a new assessment.”

THE JUDICIARY IS INDEPENDENT, THE DISCRETION IS THEIRS

Pointing out that the judiciary can make a decision without being bound by the Forensic Medicine report, the Justice Minister said, “An assessment can be made after the report reaches the court. However, the judiciary can also exercise its discretion before the report arrives. This depends on the scope of the file, the grounds for detention, and the current health status.”
