The Labor Party (EMEP) Istanbul Provincial Organization announced that Provincial Chair Sema Barbaros and several party members were detained in the morning hours. In a statement made by the party on the social media platform X, the operation was emphasized as unlawful, and a call was made for the immediate release of those detained.
NO STATEMENT FROM OFFICIAL AUTHORITIES
While no statement has yet been made by official authorities regarding the incident, no information was provided about the reason for the detentions.
Labor Party Chairman Seyit Aslan stated, "In a midnight operation, our Istanbul Provincial Chair, our Güngören district chair, and many others, including administrators and members, were detained. We condemn this unlawful and arbitrary attitude. The one-man regime, which wants to turn Turkey into an open-air prison, will not reach its goals. We will not surrender to this mentality that attacks the struggle for rights and trade union rights with fascist practices, arrests union presidents, and removes elected mayors to appoint trustees; we will continue to fight."
