Breaking News... Tuncer Bakırhan's statement on Aleppo: 'They tell us to remain silent...'

The DEM Party's group meeting at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) has begun.

The party's Co-Chair, Tuncer Bakırhan, is delivering a speech at the meeting.

"NO GOVERNMENT CAN EVER BE PERMANENT AGAINST THE WILL OF ITS CITIZENS"

Highlights from Bakırhan's speech are as follows:

"The early years of 2026 have become the herald of a new era. No one can rest their head on their pillow with a sense of security. In the world today, it is not rules but negotiations that prevail. Sovereignty is no longer a title deed; it has turned into a phenomenon that is annexed at any moment. Law has turned into a stick in the hands of those in power.

It is necessary to expand social peace domestically and the solidarity of peoples internationally. At a time when we are discussing personalized regimes, we are also following the developments in Iran. The streets, the markets, and the bazaars are in an uproar. Tradespeople, workers, women, and youth are saying 'enough.' The violence, particularly concentrated in Kurdish cities, reveals the character of the regime. Peoples crushed under high inflation and unemployment are protesting peacefully. This protest is the most fundamental and legitimate right of the people. No government can ever be permanent against the will of its own citizens."

As the DEM Party, our stance is clear. We will stand with the people and the oppressed. We will stand with democracy and freedoms, not with oppression and violence.

"THEY TELL US TO REMAIN SILENT..."

I want to dwell on the Aleppo agenda for a moment because it is a matter of conscience for every Kurd and Turk who calls themselves human. For the last 10 days, our eyes have been on Aleppo. While the world talks about the thugs in Venezuela, a silent rehearsal for genocide was carried out right next to us in Aleppo, and it continues to be carried out.

The Damascus regime and the gangs under Turkey's influence have moved to finish the job that ISIS left half-done. They call the 100-year residents of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafieh terrorists. Those who say this are creating a false perception. That is why we saw ISIS flooding into the neighborhoods in live broadcasts.

They tell us to remain silent, but we will never remain silent. We will not endorse this oppression. We know this mentality. We know very well the darkness that imposed brutality in Kobani. We call out to those making dark calculations here: You will not be able to keep your rotten regimes alive by keeping Kurds in a vice of genocide. We will not allow it. Syria's problem is not the Kurds defending their lands, nor is it the Alawites or Druze protecting their faiths. Syria's problem is the Salafist, racist approach to governance."

MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli targeted the DEM Party in his speech at his party's group meeting held today.

Bahçeli reacted to the statements made by the DEM Party regarding the events in the Syrian city of Aleppo.

Bahçeli stated, "The words and statements of DEM Party officials starting with 'We are warning Turkey' and their intentions to whitewash and back the YPG are a very sad and problematic language."
