Breaking News... We woke up to a dawn operation: Tunç Soyer detained!

As part of an investigation conducted by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, simultaneous operations were carried out this morning following allegations of irregularities in cooperative projects across the city. It was stated that the investigation was launched regarding transactions that caused public loss and unauthorized practices.

It was reported that the files subject to the investigation focus on projects carried out through İZBETON A.Ş., a subsidiary of the İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, and that the network of relationships established between cooperatives and this company is being examined in detail. It is stated that the investigation has been deepened based on findings regarding non-compliance with regulations in the financing, land allocation, and construction processes of the projects.

Furthermore, it was reported that former İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Tunç Soyer was also detained as part of the investigation. In addition to Tunç Soyer, it was noted that Manisa Metropolitan Municipality Deputy Secretary General Ulaş Aydın, İZBETON General Manager Heval Savaş Kaya, İZSU General Manager Gürkan Erdoğan, and current CHP İzmir Provincial Chair Şenol Aslanoğlu were also detained.

Announcing the news of the detentions, CHP Deputy Chairman Murat Bakan stated the following:

"We woke up to another dawn operation. Our former Metropolitan Mayor of İzmir, Tunç Soyer, the senior bureaucrats of that period, and our Provincial Chair, Şenol Aslanoğlu, were detained at the first light of dawn. We are facing a process similar to what was experienced in Istanbul.

When we look at the names detained, it is seen that the allegations directed at these individuals are issues that have been discussed in the public eye for a long time, have been explained multiple times, investigated, or debated on a political platform.

There is no suspicion of flight. The addresses of these people are known; they are people who are in front of the public every day. If they had been summoned to testify, they would certainly have gone. This dawn detention is not a legal necessity, but a clear political choice.

As a matter of fact, President Erdoğan recently gave the signal for these operations from the palace by saying, 'It is not just Istanbul, other provinces are also a disaster.' The picture we are witnessing today is not the product of law, but of a judicial order acting on instructions.

We are fighting for the independence of the judiciary. But when we face the facts, we see that this remains a wish. We are now taking the first flight to İzmir. We will stand by our friends and support them. We will continue our solidarity and our struggle against this lawlessness with determination."
