Budget debates in the Turkish Parliament suspended following Bitmez's passing

Following the news of the passing of Saadet Party Kocaeli MP Hasan Bitmez, budget debates in the Parliament were suspended. A funeral ceremony will be held for Bitmez at 16:00.

During the speech of CHP İzmir MP Tuncay Özkan on the 2024 budgets of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) General Assembly, the news of Hasan Bitmez's passing was conveyed to Deputy Speaker of Parliament Sırrı Süreyya Önder.

Önder stated that he would interrupt Özkan's speech, saying, "The sad news has arrived; I invite the group deputy chairmen to the back." Önder then suspended the session for 20 minutes.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS ANNOUNCED

Following the break, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Önder announced that he had learned of Bitmez's passing with great sorrow and that a funeral ceremony would be held for him today at the TBMM.

Önder stated that Bitmez's body would be buried in the Merkezefendi Cemetery following the funeral prayer to be held tomorrow at the Fatih Mosque in Istanbul, and extended his condolences to the Saadet Party community and the TBMM.
