İYİ Party's İBB candidate Buğra Kavuncu, who decided to enter the local elections 'freely and independently,' made assessments regarding the upcoming local elections.
Speaking to Sözcü newspaper, Kavuncu described Istanbul's problems and his election campaign. Noting that their sole focus until March 31 is to talk about Istanbul, Kavuncu said, "When I met with Ekrem İmamoğlu, we had our 'Tell Us Istanbul' project. I had delivered that file to him. I told him, 'We worked for 7 months, we traveled street by street. These are the issues that Istanbulites talk about the most.' We will voice these again. In other words, we are not people who would talk behind someone's back about something we wouldn't say to their face."
"THIS FREAK SYSTEM IS RUINING THE COUNTRY"
"This freak Presidential system is ruining the country," said Kavuncu, adding, "We have always said that we must transition to a strengthened parliamentary system. Our candidacy claim is actually about the existence of a third party, and if possible, a fourth party, outside of the two strong parties. There is nothing else to be gained from this structure. Our existence is valuable from that perspective as well."
"US RAISING OUR VOICE IS A STANCE AGAINST THE PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM"
"The fact that we or parties like us take part in parliament, form a group, and raise our voices is also an active stance regarding this presidential system," said Kavuncu, stating that their target is the disillusioned voters of the People's Alliance. Kavuncu said, "Actually, March 31 will be a decision on this in a way. The disillusioned voters of the People's Alliance are our target. You never know what will happen in an election, and you never know where the votes will flow from."
"THE GAP IS CLOSING"
Stating that they are the third name in the polls after the AKP and CHP Istanbul candidates, Kavuncu said that the gap between them is gradually closing. Mentioning that he has less recognition compared to his rivals, Kavuncu said, "Recognition is important; the other two candidates have visibility due to both government and municipal power. We also have a level of recognition brought by my 5 years as Istanbul provincial chair, but our visibility is much lower than the others. Therefore, the more we explain ourselves and express ourselves correctly in the 45-50 day process, the more our vote potential will increase."
"ISTANBUL HAS 3 FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEMS"
Kavuncu stated that Istanbul has 3 fundamental problems and shared the following information on the subject:
“Transportation is in first place. The second issue is urban transformation, which citizens whose hearts are burning complain about. The economy is in third place. The refugee issue is the fourth topic we hear about the most. We claim that we will do better. We have a team of 7-8 academics. We are receiving support from Naci Görür and İlber Ortaylı. We already had a team working in great detail from my 5-year Istanbul provincial chairmanship period. Among them are architects and civil engineer friends. We have 2 projects regarding urban transformation, and we will announce them.”
