The unofficial results of the March 31 Local Elections created a shock effect within the People's Alliance, formed by the AKP and MHP.

While the AKP fell to the position of the second party nationwide for the first time in 22 years, the MHP, which received 10.30 percent of the vote on May 14, dropped to 4.99 percent in this election. The CHP emerged victorious from the elections it entered without any alliances.

The number of municipalities won by the AKP decreased from 39 to 24. The number of metropolitan and provincial mayoralties won by the CHP rose from 21 to 35. The number of municipalities held by the MHP, the other party in the People's Alliance, also fell from 11 to 8.

In the 2024 local elections, the AKP won a total of 549 mayoralties, including 12 metropolitan municipalities, 12 provincial municipalities, 356 district municipalities, and 125 town municipalities.

The MHP, on the other hand, did not win any metropolitan municipalities in the 2024 local elections, but won 8 provincial, 122 district, and 98 town mayoralties. The MHP won a total of 228 mayoralties.

CALCULATION ERROR IN THE PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE

The AKP and MHP, which left the March 31, 2024 local elections in frustration, formed an alliance in all 30 metropolitan cities, while they entered the elections together in 29 of the remaining 51 cities.

The People's Alliance fell victim to a calculation error in four of the 22 cities where they ran separately.

The rivalry between the AKP and MHP in Yozgat, Kilis, Kütahya, and Amasya benefited the CHP and the New Welfare Party (YRP).
