Call for justice from the Victory Party: 'Release İmamoğlu and Özdağ'

Victory Party Rize Provincial Chairman Hüseyin Karaman has called for the release of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ. Emphasizing that justice must be equal and the law applied to everyone in the same way, Karaman criticized the fact that the law applied to İmamoğlu is not applied to AKP mayors.

The Victory Party Rize Provincial Organization held a press conference at Atatürk Square to demand the release of Victory Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, who has been detained for 64 days, and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

The statement was also supported by CHP Rize Central District Chairman Necati Topaloğlu and party members.

"NO ONE SHOULD EXPECT THE TURKISH NATION TO REMAIN SILENT"

Victory Party Rize Provincial Chairman Hüseyin Karaman said the following in his statement:

"As all of Turkey knows, our chairman Ümit Özdağ has been held hostage in Silivri unlawfully for 64 days without even an indictment; his crime or sin is unknown. No matter what you do, you will not be able to prevent his love for our country and the struggle he is waging for the future of our country. Under these conditions, no one should expect the Turkish Nation to remain silent against all the lawlessness we are experiencing. In our rightful struggle, all Victory Party members will continue to fight until the last drop of our blood; pressures, blackmail, and intimidation cannot break our courage or undermine our faith. No one, absolutely no one, should rely on their numbers or power, because we are the Kuvayı Milliye (National Forces) of the noble Turkish Nation; the spirit of the Kuvayı Milliye does not give up and is not defeated."

"THE LAW NOT APPLIED TO THOSE WHO SOLD ANKARA PARCEL BY PARCEL..."

The treatment received by citizens seeking justice at the point the country has reached is obvious. You defend the rule of law and say there is an independent judiciary; then we ask you: Why was the mayor, whom the esteemed person claiming to have specific weight for the AKP said 'sold Ankara parcel by parcel,' removed from office, or if he was innocent, why was he removed? No, if he was bad and guilty, why did he not account for it before the supreme Turkish justice? Is this justice and this law applied differently to the AKP and differently to other opponents? What was the deficiency of Istanbul IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu compared to the Ankara Metropolitan Mayor? He had neither less nor more than your mayors; why is the law that is not applied to them being applied to Ekrem İmamoğlu? While God forgives you, why is the law judging him? The law must be valid for everyone; justice is not achieved this way. Therefore, release both Ekrem İmamoğlu and our chairman Ümit Özdağ so that justice may be served. Listen to the voice of the streets, try to understand the people, and do not consume the hopes of our youth, who are our future. Let people live so that the state may live."
