YENİ Party Çanakkale MP and member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Youth and Sports Commission, İsmet Güneşhan, has issued a statement regarding the allegations surrounding the refereeing system in football and the Central Referee Board (MHK).
Stating that trust in justice within football has been shaken, Güneşhan invited the Minister of Youth and Sports and the President of the Turkish Football Federation (TFF) to resign.
Güneşhan, who stated that he is closely following the developments centered on the MHK, expressed that the allegations regarding match-fixing, betting, mobbing, and referee appointments cannot be viewed as "simple" or "isolated" incidents.
"All allegations voiced around the MHK and the refereeing institution must be clarified by judicial authorities in a complete and transparent manner, leaving no room for doubt. A cleansing must be achieved in sports without exception. No one, regardless of their position, can be kept outside of this process."
Güneşhan emphasized that these events concern the conscience of millions of football fans and public trust, noting that the process must be clarified in all its aspects.
Touching upon the debate over responsibility in his statement, Güneşhan said they do not believe the current administrations can produce a solution to this crisis.
"The Minister of Youth and Sports and the President of the Turkish Football Federation must resign immediately. Those who are the source of the problem cannot be the ones to provide the solution."
Güneşhan stated that the efforts of athletes working on the field, fans in the stands, and young athletes must be protected, assessing that "In a field where the sense of justice is damaged, there can be neither sports nor a future."
