Cemil Tugay, who continues to serve as the Mayor of İzmir Metropolitan Municipality, has made a statement regarding the recent allegations that he would join the AKP. In an interview with tv100, Tugay did not confirm the reports circulating in the public eye, stating, "I have no situation of joining a party at the moment."

Expressing his determination to remain independent, Tugay also voiced his sadness over being constantly brought up with these allegations. Stating that his responsibility as mayor is his priority, Tugay said, "I will remain independent, and I have said many times that I will remain independent, but being talked about every day actually saddens me. Of course, I will chart a path for myself. I am waiting for some things to settle because, as of now, I am a local administrator."

HE HAD RESIGNED FROM THE CHP

Cemil Tugay, who announced his resignation from the Republican People's Party (CHP) on June 18, had also emphasized the need for a new political structure while sharing his decision with the public.

Closely following developments regarding newly established parties, Tugay reiterated that he would continue his duties as an independent. With the words, "I will continue my duty as Mayor independently," Tugay once again rejected the speculations that he would join the AKP.
