The DEM Party Democratic Local Governments Board announced in a written statement that Bozova Municipality Co-Mayor İsmail Yıldız has been removed from his mayoral duties. The statement noted that this decision was made following an investigation and evaluation process conducted in accordance with the "Recall Principle."
Emphasizing that the party achieved significant success in Şanlıurfa during the 2024 local elections, the DEM Party stated that seven district municipalities were won by their party and that they have received strong public support. Another prominent point in the statement was that the municipalities in Şanlıurfa are being systematically targeted and subjected to efforts to undermine them.
The statement reminded that every elected municipal official is subject to the oversight of both the public and the party. In this context, it was emphasized that Bozova Municipality was subject to an institutional audit process and that İsmail Yıldız's performance as mayor was reviewed in light of various complaints received by the party's relevant boards.
It was stated that, alongside the relevant evaluation process, comprehensive discussions were held with İsmail Yıldız and various parties, and that the final decision was based on the Position Paper adopted at the conference held in the recent past.
The statement included the following remarks:
"Every elected colleague of ours is subject to institutional oversight, just as they are open to the evaluation of our people and our party throughout their term of office. Our Bozova Municipality has been evaluated within this scope. The leadership role undertaken by our Co-Mayor İsmail Yıldız since the elections has been re-examined in line with complaints reaching our party and our relevant boards.
During this process, necessary discussions were held with both our Co-Mayor İsmail Yıldız and all relevant parties. In line with the Position Paper adopted at our recently held conference, the Recall Principle was implemented, and the evaluation process was concluded on the basis of this principle. As a result of the mutual discussions and evaluations, our colleague İsmail Yıldız has been removed from his co-mayoral position. He will continue to participate in the work of our party and our municipality as a Bozova Municipal Council Member in the coming period."
