The incident of students being made to clean a graveyard at a school in the Menteşe district of Muğla as part of the "I Am Sensitive to My Environment, I Protect My Values (ÇEDES) Project" has been brought to the parliamentary agenda.
According to a report in BirGün; Republican People's Party (CHP) Muğla Deputy Gizem Özcan submitted a parliamentary question for Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin to answer regarding the fact that students were taken to clean a graveyard by the Menteşe District Directorate of National Education as part of the ÇEDES project.
"THE ÇEDES PROJECT MUST BE TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY"
In her motion, Özcan recalled that students were made to clean mosques in Tekirdağ, Batman, and Niğde under the ÇEDES Project, and stated that students were made to clean graves in the Tut district of Adıyaman and the Menteşe district of Muğla.
Özcan stated, "The Menteşe District Directorate of National Education in Muğla shared images of the students in the graveyard on its social media account and removed the post after reactions increased. No child can be forced into education that is not secular, scientific, and public, or into religious practices under the guise of educational activities. As a requirement of the secularism principle of our Constitution and the Basic Law of National Education, the ÇEDES project must be terminated immediately."

What are your thoughts on the concerns that the ÇEDES project will threaten the healthy development of children, that those with different beliefs and identities will be subjected to discrimination, and that the project will impose a single religion and a single sect?
To date, how many people have been assigned to schools as imams, preachers, and Quran course students under the name of "spiritual guides"? How many of the assigned individuals are retired imams and preachers? What is the distribution of these assignments by province?
How much has been spent under the ÇEDES project since it began in 2021? How much is estimated to be spent in 2024? From which item of the Ministry of National Education budget are these expenditures made?
When will you terminate the ÇEDES project by fulfilling the requirements of the secularism principle of our Constitution and the Basic Law of National Education?
