Members of the CHP Ankara Volunteers Platform and party members gathered in front of the party headquarters to uphold party law and internal democracy following the "absolute nullity" ruling regarding the CHP's 38th Ordinary Convention.
Carrying banners that read "We want a convention," "We want an elected chairman," and "The will of the people cannot be ignored," the group made an urgent call for the voice of the organization to be heard.
In the statement made by Founding President Müslüm Cankurtaran, the following expressions were included:
"We have gathered here today as members of the Republican People's Party and the CHP Ankara Volunteers Platform to protect our party's democratic will, the sweat of our organization's workers, and the people's right to have a say. Because we know that the Republican People's Party is a political party, and it is its members, delegates, and the will of the organization that decide who will lead this party. The Republican People's Party is not a party of personal agendas, but a party of organized struggle, solidarity, and democratic will."
EMPHASIS ON INTRA-PARTY DEMOCRACY
The statement emphasized that the primary demand of the party members is the strengthening of democracy and the right to speak within the CHP.
Cankurtaran said, "The fact that our party's will has become a subject of debate in the current process, that the voice of the organization is not being heard, and that millions of Republican People's Party members are concerned, deeply saddens us. We state clearly and plainly here: The will of the people cannot be ignored! The voice of the organization cannot be disregarded! The Republican People's Party is not without an owner!"
Cankurtaran also expressed that CHP members stand out through the work of the party's true owners, stating that the struggle of all workers who hang posters in neighborhoods and serve at ballot boxes should not be overlooked. He continued his words by saying, "We are here today not to target any individual, but to uphold the democratic functioning of the Republican People's Party and the organization's right to have a say. And we are making a strong call from here: We want an emergency convention."
EMPHASIS ON ELECTED WILL AND MEMBER DECISION
In the final part of his statement, Cankurtaran included the following: "To end the ongoing debates, strengthen intra-party democracy, and ensure the will of the organization emerges strongly, the decision of the members and delegates must be sought. Let the members speak, let the organization decide! Let democracy begin from the organization, and let the elected will be respected. The chairman elected at the convention will be our chairman."
The gathered group concluded their statement by declaring that they would continue to stand behind their demands.
