Sharp reaction from CHP's Başarır to Erdoğan! 'Did all this happen in 3 months?'
CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır made statements regarding the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Challenging the validity of the corruption allegations, Başarır said, "There was no corruption for 6 years, and today corruption has emerged. These events took place after Mr. İmamoğlu announced his presidential candidacy."

CHP Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır held a press conference at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey regarding the operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Referring to the remarks by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the cancellation of IMM Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's diploma and his detention, Başarır said, "The last person in Turkey who can comment on diplomas is Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Honorable and honest people, especially if they are the President, must speak the truth. If he is questioning someone's diploma, he has an obligation to present his own diploma first. It is shameful for the one-man ruler, whose own diploma is dubious, to question the diploma of our Istanbul Mayor and presidential candidate, which is as legitimate as mother's milk. The administration, constitutional and criminal law experts, and millions know that the diploma was cancelled unfairly and unlawfully, but the one-man ruler without a diploma is creating a perception. He talks about corruption; he claims there has been corruption in the Istanbul Municipality for 6 years, that we didn't know about it, that we were fighting among ourselves, and that's why this investigation happened. Such a thing cannot happen in a state of law. Oh Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, for 6 years, the Court of Accounts and Ministry of Interior inspectors searched every file thoroughly every 3 days. MASAK examined all municipal employees and mayors. There was no corruption for 6 years, and today corruption has emerged. Did all this happen in 3 months? These events all took place after Mr. İmamoğlu officially announced his presidential candidacy."
"BAHÇELİ NO LONGER HAS THE FACE TO EXCHANGE HOLIDAY GREETINGS"
Başarır also stated that protesting in the streets is a constitutional right and that university students should not be interfered with. Responding to questions from members of the press afterwards, Başarır commented on the MHP's decision not to exchange holiday greetings with the CHP during Ramadan Bayram, saying, "It is a fact that those who do not have the face to exchange greetings with the public cannot exchange greetings with us either. Devlet Bahçeli and his colleagues no longer have the face to exchange holiday greetings with 86 million people. They are on different paths, alienating the founding party of this country and its leader even during the holidays, without winning the hearts of millions of martyrs and veterans. Let everyone know this, it is no loss at all. What does it matter if Devlet Bahçeli exchanges greetings with us or not? What matters is having the face to exchange greetings with 86 million people; thank God we have the face to exchange greetings with the nation, but Devlet Bahçeli and the President certainly do not."
On the other hand, Başarır stated that the bonuses to be given to retirees during the Ramadan and Eid al-Adha holidays should be equal to a full pension.
