CHP Central Executive Committee met: The decisions taken have been revealed

The "absolute nullity" ruling issued by the Ankara 36th Regional Court of Justice regarding the CHP Chairmanship has created a serious crisis within the party. While the name of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who was declared chairman again following the ruling, has come to the agenda, current chairman Özgür Özel and his staff announced that they do not recognize this process and are determined to use all their legal rights.

It was learned that the majority of the members in the MYK united in their stance to maintain unity within the party and strengthen the current leadership during the discussions.

24-HOUR VIGIL AT HEADQUARTERS

The party leadership decided to adopt a similar stance by taking the resistance that took place in Saraçhane last year as a model. Referring to the weeks-long vigil held in front of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality in the face of the risk of Ekrem İmamoğlu being removed from office, the staff announced that the Headquarters building would not be abandoned day or night this time either. In a statement he made on Thursday night, Özgür Özel said, "This is our headquarters, we will not leave." Visits by various politicians and NGO representatives for solidarity are also taking place at the Headquarters. Similarly, it is emphasized that a similar spirit of resistance prevails in the provincial and district buildings affiliated with the party.

CONGRESS PROPOSAL TO KILIÇDAROĞLU

At the MYK meeting, the path to be followed against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who returned to the chairmanship after the court ruling, was discussed. In his press statement, Özgür Özel stated that he would keep communication limited, saying, "He can be reached in some way, but I will not discuss this process with him." The leadership proposes that the process be resolved through a democratic congress. In this context, it was decided to send a message to Kılıçdaroğlu saying, "If you wish, let us go to a congress with the delegate structure you determine." The proposal in question also covers the congress order of the party held on November 4-5, 2023, where the majority of the delegates were elected during the Kılıçdaroğlu era. In that congress, Özgür Özel received 812 votes, while Kılıçdaroğlu received 536.

PARTY SPLIT SCENARIOS NOT ON THE TABLE

At the meeting, the possibility of establishing a new party as an alternative or switching to a "backup party" for which preparations had been made previously was also discussed. However, Özgür Özel clarified this issue at the press conference, saying, "That formula only comes into play in extraordinary situations such as the closure of the party." The MYK members also agreed that managing the process in solidarity with the current CHP base and voters would be sufficient. Thus, it was decided to suspend plans for a party split or a backup party for the near term.

During this crisis process in the CHP, all eyes will now be on the legal appeals to be made to the Court of Cassation and the Supreme Election Council (YSK), and on the social and political repercussions of the resistance the party is in.
