Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Özlem Çerçioğlu's departure from the CHP to join the AKP has been harshly criticized by CHP Aydın Deputy Süleyman Bülbül.

In a statement addressed to Çerçioğlu, Bülbül said, "How did you come to stand side-by-side with AKP politicians who accused you of corruption during your time in the CHP? If you are not afraid of the judiciary, why did you submit to the yoke of the AKP?"

Bülbül stated that this move by Çerçioğlu is a betrayal of the will of 344 thousand CHP voters, asking, "How will you be able to walk the streets of Aydın with this face?"

Emphasizing that those who betray the will of CHP voters will not be forgotten by the public, Bülbül said that resigning from the mayoralty is a requirement of political ethics.

"THERE IS NO NEED FOR POLITICAL MERCHANTS"

Stating that Turkey does not need political merchants, Bülbül said, "Our people will wipe you off the political stage at the first ballot box."

Accusing the AKP of unlawfully throwing mayors and party members into dungeons, Bülbül remarked, "For those who attempt to use the will of the people as a bargaining chip for their own political careers to try and lecture us on honesty and morality is, to put it mildly, shamelessness."
