CHP's Murat Emir reacts to '3rd wave operation'! 'Municipalities are being intimidated'

CHP Ankara Deputy Murat Emir, who attended the joint opening ceremony for the Çankaya Municipality's City Restaurant, Çankafe, Toy Library, and İlkbahar Neighborhood Marketplace, made evaluations regarding the 3rd wave operation carried out against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality today.

Murat Emir said the following on the subject:

“These are, of course, efforts to design municipalities according to their own interests through the judiciary, investigations, and prosecutors, and efforts to prevent mayors and municipal personnel from working. Because a completely unlawful process is being carried out with investigations, detentions, and arrests. We know from previous investigations that there are no real allegations in any of these cases; they could not find concrete evidence to support them.

"AS THEY CANNOT FIND EVIDENCE, THEY ARE STIRRING THINGS UP, DIGGING AROUND"

As they cannot find evidence, they are stirring things up, digging around, asking 'What can we find?', and carrying out new waves of detentions based on the claims of fake witnesses. Because they cannot fill the file. The case has collapsed. Tayyip Erdoğan had said when the first operations began, 'Everything will come to light in a month, they won't be able to look each other in the face.' But they still haven't been able to put any tangible, concrete evidence into the file. They have secret witnesses in their hands. The public now knows that what the secret witnesses say—such as 'It was like that, I heard this. They said it that way. They made it felt that it would be that way'—are vague, uncertain, and not first-hand statements, and that they have not been able to reach concrete evidence through the statements of these secret witnesses.

Therefore, they want to make the municipalities unable to function by spreading fear with these operations and threats. Because they see that the successful services of our municipalities have found great support among the public. At the same time, they are trying to find evidence and trying to revive a collapsed case. No matter what they do, they will never be able to truly accuse Mr. İmamoğlu, nor the mayors and municipal personnel they are currently holding in detention. Because there is no possibility of them finding concrete evidence. Because our mayors have worked cleanly. They worked under the audit of the Court of Accounts. They were under constant supervision.

"THESE INVESTIGATIONS ARE CONDUCTED BY MAKING THEM HEARD THROUGH PRO-GOVERNMENT MEDIA"

Therefore, we have no fear of any investigation or detention, but we strongly object to trial while in custody. When there is a trial while in custody, the punishment is given in advance, and they achieve their goal in one respect.

Another point that I think should be carefully underlined here is that these investigations are conducted by making them heard. First, it is made heard through pro-government media, the news is reported, and a perception operation is carried out through the prosecutors first. Those investigations come afterwards. In this respect, it is clearly revealed how much this business is aimed at creating a perception and how devoid of law it is.”
