CHP Şanlıurfa Deputy Mahmut Tanal, speaking at a press conference in Parliament, emphasized that amnesty laws were resorted to during periods coinciding with significant dates such as the fifth, tenth, and fiftieth anniversaries of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, stating, "In the 100th year of the Republic, an amnesty is a necessity, a requirement. An amnesty regulation for 'prisoners of fate' should be added to the 8th Judicial Package, excluding crimes that would cause public outrage, such as terrorism, drug offenses, harassment, rape, sexual abuse, and similar crimes."

Stating that they had made a call on this issue while the 8th Judicial Package was being discussed in the Justice Commission but that the matter was not taken up, Tanal explained that the families of 'prisoners of fate' are expecting an amnesty from the 8th Judicial Package.

Tanal reminded that they had submitted a legislative proposal on this subject to the Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey on January 19.
