CHP's condition for early elections revealed: 'In the first election held by his decision...'

The CHP, which became the leading party for the first time in 22 years in the March 31, 2024 Local Elections, has drawn its roadmap.

Furthermore, the CHP argues that the discussions on early elections do not reflect the agenda of the public.

According to the report by Mustafa Bildircin from BirGün; CHP staff members state, “We are talking about minimum wage earners, retirees, and the Gezi Park trial detainees; we do not want the election debate to overshadow the agenda.” Noting that pressure on the government will increase if the public's demand is for early elections, CHP staff members say, “We are conducting confident politics and are not afraid of a possible election. However, within the scope of the responsibility given to our party on March 31, we primarily want to keep the citizens' problems on the agenda.”

Pointing out that criticisms that the contacts between Özel and Erdoğan and the negotiation process have held the CHP back from the struggle are unfair, the assessment is made that, “There are issues that can be solved very easily through negotiations. Whoever benefits from this solution, it is primarily beneficial to the interlocutors and the society.”

EARLY ELECTIONS AND ERDOĞAN'S RE-CANDIDACY

The CHP Headquarters, in response to criticisms that “Early elections would also pave the way for President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's re-candidacy,” points out that the restrictive provisions in the Constitution are indisputable. Furthermore, noting that polls conducted after March 31 show an increase in the CHP's vote share, party staff members say, “It is no coincidence that we became the leading party in the local elections. The poll data is also clear. Our view on early elections is not about Erdoğan's re-candidacy, but about his term ending as soon as possible.”

PRESIDENTIAL GOVERNMENT SYSTEM

Stating that the main reason for the problems Turkey faces in the most fundamental areas is the Presidential Government System, CHP officials say the following:

“The annulment decisions of the Constitutional Court are an indication of how broken the current system is. This system is a system that threatens the regime. All of Turkey's institutions have been hollowed out, and the separation of powers has been eliminated. The legislature has been ignored. It is difficult to measure the public's demand for early elections right now, but it is also clear that the government has become unable to manage the country.”

A GOVERNMENT OF THE PEOPLE, NOT CONTRACTORS

When asked, “Is the CHP ready to clean up the economic wreckage if it comes to power?”, CHP officials give the following answer:

“We also encountered a wreckage in the municipalities we took over in 2019. However, our mayors managed the process very well despite the earthquake and the pandemic. Budgets were used correctly, and waste and corruption were prevented. A CHP government will not be a government where public resources are spent mostly on five contractors. There is a chasm between what is given to retirees and what is given to contractors. We will eliminate this chasm. Our staff is good. In a CHP government, there will be competent staff instead of staff dismissed with a single word.”

"IN THE FIRST ELECTION HELD BY HIS DECISION..."

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel continues his thank-you visits to the provinces and districts where his party won municipalities following the March 31 local elections. In this context, Özel went to Adana yesterday. His first stop in Adana was his party's provincial headquarters, after which he visited Adana Metropolitan Mayor Zeydan Karalar.

CHP Leader Özel congratulated Karalar for being elected twice in a row in Adana. Speaking here, Özel said:

“We are candidates to govern Turkey. The nation is impatient to give this duty to our party once again. Whether it is held on time or early, we are ready; if it is held on time, we will win on time. But this economic crisis and the management approach that ignores so many problems and stubbornly repeats mistakes show that it could bring early elections onto our nation's agenda very soon. We are ready if it is held next Sunday. We are the leading party, we want to take over the government. Whenever our nation demands it, if our parliament reaches 360 and says from the parliament, and the President says he cannot continue this crisis and an early election is the solution from now on, we are candidates for power in the first election to be held by his decision. And at the point where we are candidates for power, the CHP will give the good news to the people of Turkey, just as it did in the municipalities, of both governing the country and bringing democracy back to Turkey, enriching our people, and feeding the hungry.”
