A total of 14 lawsuits involving CHP members will be brought to court throughout September. CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik announced that they would personally follow these hearings and issued harsh criticisms.
In a statement on his social media account, Çelik said, “While brutal murders are committed on the streets of Istanbul every day and a deep public order crisis is being experienced, we are living in a period where the Turkish judiciary is occupied with political operations and prisons, where criminals should be, are being filled with dissidents.”
CHP ISTANBUL LEGAL COMMISSION ON THE FIELD
Çelik noted that the CHP Istanbul Legal Commission they established would closely monitor all these cases.
Drawing attention with the words, “Those who cannot cope with us politically, those who cannot defeat us at the ballot box, are trying to intimidate society with a judiciary they have politicized. While brutal murders are committed on the streets of Istanbul every day and a deep public order crisis is being experienced, we are living in a period where the Turkish judiciary is occupied with political operations and prisons, where criminals should be, are being filled with dissidents,” Çelik emphasized that they would continue the struggle both on the streets and on legal grounds.
“STRUGGLE FOR TRUE JUSTICE”
Çelik concluded his statement with the following words:
“While we continue our political struggle on the streets through democratic means, our legal commission is also waging an intense legal battle in the courts. At the end of all this struggle, we will achieve true justice, an independent judiciary, and democratic politics. Not only us, but all individuals in Turkey will win.”
