CHP figure announces: Tayfun Kahraman hospitalized

City planner Tayfun Kahraman, who was sentenced to 18 years in prison in the Gezi Park trial—a sentence upheld by the Court of Cassation—has been transferred to Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Hospital due to health issues. The news that Kahraman, who has been held at the Marmara Closed Prison in Silivri for over three years, was hospitalized due to MS was announced to the public by CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik.

In a statement on social media, Çelik said, "We have learned that our colleague and party member, city planner and academic Dr. Tayfun Kahraman, was transferred today from Silivri Prison to the Neurology Clinic at Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa Hospital due to MS."

JUSTICE MUST NOT BE DELAYED

In his statement, Çelik also included the following remarks:

"Tayfun has been held in prison unlawfully for 38 months. He was sentenced to 18 years in prison without a single piece of concrete evidence against him. Everyone knows that Tayfun is as innocent as can be. Following a judicial process where he was not tried fairly, where the evidence and witnesses he presented were not included in the case file, where no documents proving his innocence were evaluated, and where all universal principles of law were ignored, he has been deprived of his daughter Vera and kept away from his family for 38 months. It is the duty of this country's judicial system to reunite Tayfun with his family in good health, before any irreversible consequences occur. This issue must be resolved before the cost of delaying justice becomes too heavy."
