CHP files criminal complaint against Akın Gürlek

The Republican People's Party (CHP) has filed a criminal complaint with the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek. In the petition submitted by CHP lawyers, numerous allegations were listed regarding Gürlek's assets, income, and various commercial transactions.

ALLEGATIONS IN THE PETITION

The application petition submitted by the CHP to the prosecutor's office includes details regarding bank safety deposit boxes, corporate connections abroad, real estate transactions, and high-value housing ventures. It was requested that the allegations be evaluated under the scope of "unjust enrichment" and "false asset declaration."

ALLEGATIONS OF SECRET SAFETY DEPOSIT BOX AND CASH DEPOSITS

According to the allegations in the petition, it was claimed that Akın Gürlek held a rented safety deposit box at a bank branch in Ümitköy, Ankara. It was alleged that cash was deposited into this box by hand, but that neither the box nor its contents were included in his asset declarations. The CHP requested an investigation into bank and BRSA (BDDK) records.

The criminal complaint also alleged that Gürlek continued his board membership at ETIMINE SA, a Luxembourg-based company affiliated with Eti Maden to which he was appointed during his tenure as Deputy Minister, for approximately 10 months after beginning his role as Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor. Recalling that judges and prosecutors are prohibited from engaging in other income-generating activities, the party requested an investigation into the income allegedly earned during this period.

ALLEGATION OF PURCHASING HOUSING AT A LOW PRICE

According to another allegation included in the petition, it was claimed that Gürlek purchased a residence in March 2024 for 9.8 million TL, despite its market value being stated as approximately 30 million TL. It was alleged that the property was sold shortly thereafter for 40 million TL. It was stated that the firm that carried out the sale was mentioned in witness statements in the case where Ekrem İmamoğlu is being tried, but that it did not appear as a defendant.

95 MILLION TL VILLA PROJECT

Another notable topic in the criminal complaint was a luxury villa project in Etiler, Beşiktaş. According to a preliminary protocol alleged to be dated June 16, 2025, the petition claimed that Akın Gürlek initiated an attempt to purchase a villa for 95 million 542 thousand 500 TL. It was requested that an investigation be conducted into whether this amount could be covered by legal income.
