CHP Group Deputy Chair Başarır: 'Elections are mandatory, the time for elections has come'

CHP Group Deputy Chair Başarır evaluated the agenda at a press conference held in Parliament. Reiterating his party's demand for elections, Başarır said, "Elections are mandatory in Turkey; the time for elections has come."
Recalling the recent attack on the police checkpoint in front of the Israeli Consulate General, Başarır stated that the incident was sad and concerning.
Reminding that police officers also lost their lives in an operation against ISIS in Yalova, Başarır noted that the issue of ISIS has been discussed for 8 years.
Başarır stated that Yunus Emre S., one of the attackers who carried out the attack in Istanbul, had been detained for 3 months in 2018.
'IF OUR POLICE HAD BEEN MARTYRED, WHO WOULD HAVE BEEN HELD ACCOUNTABLE?'
Stating that the assets of many individuals were frozen by a decision published in the Official Gazette in 2021 on the grounds that there were reasons to believe they "provided financing to a terrorist organization," and that Yunus Emre S. was among them, Başarır recalled that "the decision to freeze the assets of Yunus Emre S. was lifted by the Ministry of Treasury and Finance in 2024."
Asking the question, "If our police had been martyred yesterday, who would have been held accountable?" Başarır stated that officials must explain what happened.
'THE OPPOSITION IS UNDER ATTACK'
Reacting to the investigation into irregularities at the Üsküdar Municipality, Başarır said that the money reported to have been found at the Üsküdar Municipality actually belonged to someone else, and he demanded that an investigation be opened into that news report.
Noting that "the opposition is unprotected and under attack," Başarır used the expression, "Elections are mandatory in Turkey; the time for elections has come."
Başarır also said that the opposition party can impose an agenda on the government and that the old opposition has come to an end.
Stating that the price of everything has increased and that the price of a liter of diesel is approaching 100 liras, Başarır reiterated his demands regarding elections.
