Making assessments regarding the Party Charter Congress that will begin with an opening in Sivas, CHP Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik made notable statements.
As reported by Mehmet Emin Kurnaz from BirGün, Çelik stated that important items are on the congress agenda, noting that issues of democratic restructuring such as the primary election practice and the three-term rule within the party will be discussed. Çelik said, "This congress takes on the mission of making our party's internal structure even more democratic."
'WE AIM TO BUILD A PARTICIPATORY PARTY'
Referring to Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu's words that "If the CHP changes, Turkey changes," Çelik expressed that the changes to be made in the party will reflect on the country's general political atmosphere and management approach. Çelik stated, "The change will not be limited to charter articles; it will be a process that covers the entire structure of our party. We aim to build a more open and participatory party for young people, women, and all defenders of democracy."
EARLY ELECTION
The congress also plans to develop new approaches in the party's core policy areas such as social policies, economy, education, and health. Using the words, "Along with the charter, we will also update our party program. By organizing workshops where all segments of society will contribute, we will produce solutions to the challenges Turkey faces," Çelik emphasized that the charter congress is important not only for party members but for all of Turkey.
Çelik stated that the demand for an early election is also one of the important issues that will be addressed at the congress. Drawing attention to the necessity of an early election, he said, "An early election is essential to find solutions to our country's current governance problems. This congress will also be a milestone for an early election. Every segment of society must voice this demand strongly. Because the government's capacity to govern has now been exhausted."
Pointing to the CHP's change process, Çelik added that the party's renewal process will continue in line with social demands and expectations, and that this process will play a critical role in Turkey's journey toward democratization.
