CHP's Karasu reacts to Minister Uraloğlu's two-sentence response: 'You will go'

Republican People's Party (CHP) Deputy Chairman Ulaş Karasu criticized Transport Minister Uraloğlu for responding with only "two sentences" to questions regarding the Erdemli-Kızkalesi Highway Project in Mersin, which was modified three times two years after the tender, and which resulted in a 600 million dollar extra gain for Kolin İnşaat, the company that won the tender, due to increases in vehicle toll rates within the contract.

Karasu stated, "The government takes from the nation's pocket and puts it into the coffers of crony companies. This government, which deems holiday bonuses like alms worthy for retirees, opens the taps wide when it comes to companies. They give a so-called response to questions with two sentences, as if mocking the nation! I respond with a single word: you will go!"

CHP's Ulaş Karasu had asked the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure about issues such as how much of the project has been completed, the grounds for the amendments made to the contract in favor of the company, and how the grievances of citizens who make their living from agriculture in the region will be addressed. The Minister gave a two-sentence, four-line response to the CHP Deputy Chairman's questions: "Approximately 24% progress has been achieved in the Çeşmeli-Kızkalesi section of the Çeşmeli-Erdemli-Silifke-Taşucu Highway Project, and construction works are ongoing. On the other hand, all work and transactions in Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects are carried out in accordance with their legislation and within the framework of the provisions contained in the implementation contracts."

'I RESPOND WITH A SINGLE WORD'

Evaluating the Minister's response, Karasu argued that appointed ministers essentially mock the nation by leaving deputies' questions unanswered or providing answers devoid of seriousness, pointing out that obstructing oversight activities essentially means preventing the public from being informed. Karasu stated, "State business requires seriousness. You give a so-called response to our questions with two sentences, as if mocking the nation. You know very well that you are living the final days of your government. I respond to you with a single word: you will go!"
