CHP's Ali Öztunç calls on Özgür Özel to resign

CHP Kahramanmaraş MP Ali Öztunç has called on Özgür Özel, who announced his candidacy for the party chairmanship, to resign. Öztunç stated, "It is not ethical to be a candidate while sitting in that seat on behalf of the Chairman."

CHP Group Chairman Özgür Özel has announced that he will be a candidate for the party chairmanship at the 38th Ordinary Grand Congress, which is expected to be held at the beginning of November.

Özel stated that they would evaluate the issue of stepping down from his position as group chairman once the congress date has been announced.

Some party members have reacted to this move by Özel. One of them is CHP Kahramanmaraş MP Ali Öztunç.

"NOT RIGHT OR ETHICAL"

In a statement on his X account, Öztunç said, "Running for chairman is the right of every CHP member. However, it is not right or ethical to be a candidate for chairman while sitting in the group chairmanship seat on behalf of the Chairman. I believe it would be more appropriate for him to resign from the group chairmanship to compete."
