Amnesty request from CHP MP Mustafa Sarıgül: Prisoners, driver's license amnesty...

CHP Erzincan MP Mustafa Sarıgül called for a one-time amnesty for prisoners, drivers whose licenses have been revoked, and tradespeople imprisoned due to bounced checks.

Sarıgül stated at his press conference in the TBMM that there is a great expectation for amnesty in society, adding that it is the duty of politicians to hear and voice the public's concerns.

Expressing that there are citizens who have been imprisoned due to judicial errors and hasty trials, Sarıgül said, "The duty of our state is to judge fairly. It is unacceptable in terms of conscience for even one person to be in prison unjustly. An injustice done to one person is considered an injustice done to everyone. If one person has suffered injustice, that society is unjust."

Stating that the number of prisoners in jails has reached the highest level in the history of the Republic, Sarıgül said, "Let us turn a brand new page in the 100th year of the Republic. Let us show that our state is strong, fair, conscientious, and merciful."

Sarıgül emphasized that his call is not a political one but a call of conscience, stating, "Forgive, my Turkey, forgive to end the longing of mothers, to make children happy. I am calling out to all group deputy chairmen in Parliament; judicial packages will be coming. Before these judicial packages, let all political parties come together and look at this issue not as a political matter, but as a matter of conscience, and let us bring joy to those imprisoned by fate."

Stating that 2.5 million professional drivers and their families, as well as many people due to bounced checks, have been victimized because their licenses were revoked, Sarıgül said that a one-time amnesty should be arranged for these issues as well.
