CHP MP Tanal tells 12Punto: Why did Erdoğan meet with Ateş?

Via her social media account, Ayşe Ateş, who has been seeking justice for a long time regarding the murder of Sinan Ateş,went to the meeting held with Erdoğan at the Beştepe Presidential Complex accompanied by her daughters, Bengisu and Banuçiçek.  Ayşe Ateş, in a statement made at the CHP Headquarters on June 10, had said that Erdoğan had accepted her request for a meeting, but that MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli's message of "Do not pat them on the back, do not protect them" had led to the cancellation of the meeting. Ayşe Ateş, and today New Welfare Party Chairman Fatih Erbakan will meet with him.

Ayşe Ateş, Following her meeting with President Erdoğan, she made a post on social media. The following statements were used in the post shared via her X account:

“Our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, received me and my daughters in his office. The meeting, where he hosted us with great courtesy and which lasted for approximately an hour and a half, was also attended by the Minister of Justice, Mr. Yılmaz Tunç, and our President’s Chief of Staff, Hasan Doğan. 

Our President listened to me and my daughters one by one. He gave gifts to my daughters. I would like to thank him once again in your presence.

I will provide a brief summary for all members of the press who have called to get information about the meeting we held with our President: 

Whoever has made our lives miserable with threats and slanders, taking strength from our President's silence until today, and whoever has made life difficult for my children, praising crime and criminals, should look at what they said yesterday and think about what they will say tomorrow. 

Because justice will surely be served, and no one will get away with what they have done.”

Evaluating the meeting between Sinan Ateş's wife and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at Beştepe, CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal, emphasized the need for an independent judiciary in the Ateş murder case.

Speaking exclusively to 12Punto, CHP Şanlıurfa MP Mahmut Tanal said the following:

"The meeting between Sinan Ateş's wife and Erdoğan is a success for the CHP"

"The meeting between Sinan Ateş's wife and Erdoğan is a success for the CHP. If the CHP had not pursued this murder, this meeting would not have happened.

If the CHP, as a party, had not said 'we want justice here,' this meeting would still not have taken place." The CHP stands with the victims.

The voice of the street is justice, and the CHP always listens to the voice of the street. This voice of the street is about rights and law, and the CHP is listening to this voice. Which victim has Mr. Erdoğan ever listened to until today, for him to listen to Ayşe Ateş? To find the perpetrators of this murder, it is necessary to remove politics from the judiciary. If you remove politics from the judiciary, the judiciary becomes independent. If an independent and impartial judiciary performs its duty in the Sinan Ateş murder case in the most thorough manner and the material truth is revealed, justice will be served. This is also what the CHP wants. Erdoğan felt compelled to meet with Ayşe Ateş because he knows this as well.
