Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP) Hatay MP Can Atalay continues to face reactions following the reading of the Court of Cassation 13th Civil Chamber's decision during a parliamentary session presided over by Deputy Speaker of Parliament Bekir Bozdağ, and the subsequent unlawful stripping of Atalay's parliamentary status.
Another reaction came against Minister of Justice Yılmaz Tunç, who defended Bozdağ for reading the decision.
"THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE IS ACTING ONLY ON INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN TO HIM INSTEAD OF PERFORMING HIS PRIMARY DUTY"
CHP Istanbul MP and lawyer Turan Taşkın Özer reacted to Minister Yılmaz Tunç's remarks, "Occupying the Parliamentary Speaker's podium and throwing a booklet at our Deputy Speaker of Parliament is a great disrespect to the national will," by stating the following:
“Yesterday, the will of the nation was disregarded in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Every member of parliament swears on their honor and integrity to remain loyal to the Constitution. However, Bekir Bozdağ, an AK Party member serving as Deputy Speaker of Parliament, acted on instructions given to him instead of acting in accordance with the Constitution as required by his oath. But unfortunately, it is not just the Deputy Speaker of Parliament; we see that the Minister of Justice is also acting only on instructions given to him instead of performing his primary duty. He defends the Court of Cassation 3rd Criminal Chamber, which acts with political motives and palace instructions against the Constitution and the Constitutional Court's decision, on the grounds that 'the Constitution needs to be changed.' He is fueling the judicial crisis and the state crisis created in a manner far from the responsibility of a statesman. Not content with this, he targets the MPs who defend the nation's will in Parliament. None of our MPs you target will ever, ever turn back from their oath to remain loyally committed to the Constitution.
"INSTEAD OF DEFENDING THE AKP DEPUTY SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT, BRING JUSTICE TO THE COUNTRY"
Mr. Minister, I invite you to perform your primary duty. I call on the HSK (Council of Judges and Prosecutors), which you head, to immediately take action regarding the judges and prosecutors mentioned in bribery allegations and unlawful decisions, starting with your deputy ministers! Work for the personal rights of judges and prosecutors who do their jobs with dedication! Stand with the lawyers who are subjected to violence in courthouse corridors! Take swift action regarding the rights violations occurring in prisons! Please, for once, pay attention to the demands for rights rising from all segments of society! Of course, the podium of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey belongs to the noble nation. However, the party you belong to and the palace regime you are tied to are the ones who usurp, disregard, and trample upon the nation's will. Instead of defending the AK Party Deputy Speaker of Parliament, who brought the existence and honor of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey to the ground and read the decision regarding the stripping of a deputy elected by the people without a second thought, bring justice to the country.”
