CHP reacts to PKK's dissolution decision: 'We should hear about the process from Parliament, not from Şamil Tayyar'

The second resolution process, which began with the call from MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, continued with meetings between the Imralı delegation and terrorist organization PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. Following a long period after Öcalan's written call, the organization announced that it had dissolved itself and laid down its arms.

The first comment from the CHP regarding the PKK's decision to dissolve and lay down arms came from Group Deputy Chairman Ali Mahir Başarır.

FIRST COMMENT FROM CHP ON PKK'S DISSOLUTION: PARLIAMENT'S INVOLVEMENT IS ESSENTIAL!

Participating in the 'Bi' Karar Ver' program on Karar TV's YouTube channel, Başarır said, "This country has been fighting terrorism for 40 years. Now, the silencing of weapons and the stopping of bloodshed are certainly important. However, for the legitimacy of the process, it is essential that Parliament be involved in this process."

Başarır's statements on the subject are as follows:

WE SHOULD NOT HEAR ABOUT THE PROCESS FROM ŞAMİL TAYYAR

Expressing his discomfort with the lack of transparency in the management of the process, Başarır said, "We should not hear about this process from Şamil Tayyar. It must be conducted transparently with the parties represented in Parliament. No one should give us information through journalists or backroom gossip. If Parliament is sidelined, social consensus cannot be achieved."

Emphasizing that the resolution process can only be managed with a 'we' language, Başarır stated, "It is valuable that it ends today. But we must conduct this process not by saying 'I succeeded,' but by saying 'we succeeded together.' Social consensus is achieved through this."

"STEPS MUST BE TAKEN THAT WILL NOT OFFEND THE FAMILIES OF MARTYRS"

Başarır emphasized that despite potential sentencing regulations being discussed in the public sphere, no information has been shared in Parliament, stating, "As a CHP Group Deputy Chairman, I do not know the smallest detail regarding the sentencing regulation. Thousands of citizens are asking us questions, but no official information is being shared. This is unacceptable."

Stating that the CHP's primary concern while supporting the process is respect for the moral rights of martyrs' families and veterans, Başarır said, "If Turkey is to take steps in this process, steps must be taken that will protect the dignity of the families of nearly 50,000 martyrs and will not offend them. This is exactly what we mean by social consensus."

'WE ARE NOT AGAINST IT, BUT WE ARE NOT GIVING BLIND SUPPORT EITHER'

At the end of the program, Başarır said, "As the CHP, we are not against the process, but we are not giving it blind support either," and reiterated that all details must be discussed in Parliament and presented to the public.

Başarır called out, "This country has been bleeding for 40 years. If a reconciliation process is now necessary, let us embrace this process. But let us do it with everyone, with society, and with Parliament."
