CHP reacts to 'setup'
Following the arrest of CHP's Hakan Bahçetepe, the administration of Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality passed to the AKP during the acting mayor election. CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel reacted sharply to the decision, stating, "They usurped the municipality through a setup."

An election for an interim acting mayor was held to replace Gaziosmanpaşa Mayor Hakan Bahçetepe, who was arrested in the latest wave of a controversial investigation targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB). In the vote held at the Municipal Council, AKP candidate Eray Karadeniz was elected as acting mayor due to the majority held by members of the People's Alliance.
CAME WITH PEOPLE'S ALLIANCE VOTES
In the vote held at the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipal Council, AKP's Eray Karadeniz was brought to the position of acting mayor with the support of the People's Alliance, despite objections from CHP members. While Bahçetepe's detention continues, this move has sparked a major reaction from the CHP side.
SHARP STATEMENT FROM CHP
CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel criticized the development with harsh words. Yücel stated, "They usurped the Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality with all sorts of slanders, setups, and political operations!" and expressed that they do not find it legitimate for an elected mayor to be arrested and replaced by a name from a different party.
Yücel included the following statements in his remarks:
“A clear blow is being dealt to democracy, the ballot box, and the will of the people. Bahçetepe's arrest is part of a process where the judiciary has become politicized. It is unacceptable for an administration elected by the votes of the people to be transferred to a different party through this.”
CONTROVERSIAL IBB INVESTIGATION GROWS
Within the scope of the ongoing judicial process targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), many municipal employees had previously been detained, and investigations had been launched into various municipalities.
While the CHP claims that political engineering is being carried out through the judiciary, the ruling wing argues that the investigation is legal.
EYES ON THE COURT PROCESS
The term of Eray Karadeniz, who was appointed as acting mayor, will continue until the final decision is made regarding Bahçetepe. The CHP has announced that it will both pursue legal avenues and continue its political struggle.
