CHP responds to claims regarding Balıkesir Mayor Ahmet Akın: Is he switching to the AKP?

While claims that CHP metropolitan mayors would transfer to other parties have been on the agenda in recent days, Ahmet Akın's name has been most frequently associated with these rumors. However, senior party officials stated that these claims do not reflect the truth and consist solely of speculation.

Referring to the metropolitan mayors' meeting held in Balıkesir last weekend, officials stated, "We were all together in Balıkesir last week. We came together as the administrators of our municipalities. This weekend, we will hold a rally. Claims that Ahmet Akın will switch to another party are completely baseless and consist of mere gossip. The necessary message will be conveyed from that meeting anyway."

CHP figures stated that such claims against their party are intended to create confusion in the public eye and underscored that the party's unity regarding local governance remains intact.

RECORD INCREASE IN NEW MEMBERSHIP CAMPAIGN

On the other hand, current data was shared regarding the new membership drive launched in February under the slogan "If you can't stand it, join the CHP." In the last one-month period, exactly 32 thousand 835 people have registered as new members of the party.

According to information provided by the party headquarters, the total number of CHP members has reached 1 million 928 thousand 184. While the CHP leadership emphasized that this increase is an indicator of democratic participation and interest in the party, they announced that the membership campaign would be expanded further and spread across Turkey.
