CHP's Yavuzyılmaz speaks out on Ankara Airport: Majority of NATO traffic will go to Esenboğa

CHP Zonguldak Deputy Deniz Yavuzyılmaz reacted to the government over Ankara Airport in a post regarding the air traffic expected to arrive in Turkey for the NATO Summit.

Yavuzyılmaz stated that he was sharing the minutes of the DHMİ Airport Facilitation Committee (HALİNKOK) from his social media account, claiming that the majority of the aircraft arriving for the summit would use Esenboğa Airport.

The CHP deputy argued that Ankara Airport, which was opened on June 15 and was stated to be used intensively during the NATO Summit process, would only handle 10-20 percent of the expected air traffic.

In his post, Yavuzyılmaz stated, "We have determined with official documents that 80 to 90 percent of the aircraft that will come to Turkey for the NATO Summit will use Esenboğa Airport."

Stating that the remaining aircraft would use Ankara Airport in Etimesgut, Yavuzyılmaz assessed, "In other words, under the pretext of the NATO Summit, President Erdoğan has acquired an airport allocated to himself by spending billions of liras of public funds."

Yavuzyılmaz's statements have brought the debate regarding the airport investment in Ankara and the air traffic planning to be used during the summit period back to the agenda.
