CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel held a press conference following his party's MYK meeting. Yücel responded to Erdoğan's "incompetent cadres" outburst. “The people he calls incompetent cadres are the founders of this party. If Erdoğan is looking for incompetent cadres, he can look at his own cabinet," Yücel said, adding the following:
"Millions who show their love, respect, and loyalty to Atatürk and protect his legacy will certainly not ask Tayyip Erdoğan or anyone else how they should love him. Let no one think that they are sycophants who would compare Atatürk to Tayyip Erdoğan. We commemorate our founder of the Republic of Turkey, the chief architect of our independence, our great leader Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, along with his comrades-in-arms and all our martyrs with mercy, and we bow with respect before their cherished memories."
Touching upon the agenda of constitutional amendments, Yücel said:
"In this country, which has survived coups, memorandums, and states of emergency, the constitution has never been violated to this extent in any period of history. Today, a regime of lawlessness and oppression prevails in the country that would make even the coup periods look mild. While democracy is being suspended on one hand, the future of 85 million is being sacrificed for the political calculations of a single person on the other. As the AKP government faces the reality that it will lose in the first general election, injustice in the country continues to increase."
'THEY COULD NOT WIN AT THE BALLOT BOX, THEY STAGED A COUP AGAINST DEMOCRACY'
Yücel's agenda also included the appointment of trustees, which began with the CHP's Esenyurt Municipality and continued with the Mardin Metropolitan Municipality, Batman Municipality, and Şanlıurfa Halfeti Municipality. Yücel stated:
"They have reached such a point that they are still using the space provided by the treacherous coup attempt of July 15 to try to win what they could not win at the ballot box by staging a coup against democracy and usurping the will of the people through the trustee practice introduced during the state of emergency. Our Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer, who has dedicated his years to academic work, was arrested on fabricated evidence and a trustee was appointed in his place. The detention of Ahmet Özer in a dawn operation at 5 a.m. is just one of the shameful steps taken by the AKP."
'PEOPLE LIKE AKIN GÜRLEK CARE ABOUT THEIR SEAT, NOT JUSTICE'
CHP Spokesperson Yücel also spoke about Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, the person leading the investigation that paved the way for the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place.
Yücel said:
"It is not for nothing that we call Akın Gürlek the AKP's new Zekeriya Öz. Names like Zekeriya Öz and Akın Gürlek do not care about universal legal norms, but rather the doors that the political power will open for them and the opportunities it will offer. They care about their seat, not justice. They care about loyalty, not merit. Is there anyone who still thinks that the arrest of our Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee to Esenyurt is not a political operation?"
