CHP Spokesperson Yücel: AKP sees MHP as a burden on its back

The CHP Central Executive Board (MYK) met at the party headquarters under the chairmanship of Chairman Özgür Özel. Özel opened the Central Executive Board meeting with former CHP Chairman Hikmet Çetin.

Making a statement regarding the meeting, Yücel criticized the government's economic policy. Stating that the average inflation in OECD countries is 8 percent, while it is 61.4 percent in Turkey, Yücel said that a glass of tea costs 20 liras and a simit costs 10 liras.

Noting that a family of four needs 10 thousand 800 liras per month even if they consume one tea and one simit per person for three meals a day, Yücel pointed out that a minimum wage earner supporting a family is left with only 602 liras to make ends meet.

Stating that the registered unemployment rate was announced as 9.2 percent last week, Yücel said that one in every 5 young people and one in every 3 women are unemployed.

Emphasizing that they will enter the upcoming local elections with mayoral candidates who share the public's concerns and produce solutions to the public's problems, Yücel said, "Participatory, inclusive, and democratic methods will be applied while determining our candidates.

I would like to express once again that care will be taken to comply with the 'equal representation' principle, which will increase women's representation as much as possible, while determining our mayoral candidates, just as it was done while determining our Central Executive Board and shadow cabinet."

Stating that the application made by the CHP to the Constitutional Court to eliminate the "bonus injustice" against retired farmers registered in the Farmer Registration System (ÇKS) was effective and produced positive results, Yücel stated that a legal regulation should be made for this.

Yücel said, "We must state that while this legal regulation is being made, it would be appropriate for the economic conditions of Turkey and the requirements of a social state for these 5 thousand lira bonuses to cover not only farmers registered in the ÇKS but all retirees."

"WE WANT HUMANITARIAN AID TO BE DELIVERED"

Reminding that today is World Children's Rights Day, Yücel stated that one in every two children in Turkey suffers from poverty.

Stating that education is one of the most fundamental rights of children, Yücel said, "They are trying to raise a single-type student, a single-type individual, and even a vengeful generation. We are warning you from here. Do not dare to take steps that will distance the education system from reason, science, modernity, and the path of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk."

Claiming that the release of Ogün Samast, the murderer of Hrant Dink, was not a coincidence, Yücel said, "While Turkey is facing a judicial coup, they gave the message 'one day we will also protect our murderer' with this release decision. They are trying to intimidate the opposition, journalists, and those who do not think like them."

Stating that Israel, which continues its attacks on civilians in Gaza, is targeting hospitals and that this is contrary to international and war law, Yücel said, "We want a ceasefire to be achieved in Gaza as soon as possible and humanitarian aid to be delivered to civilians."

"THERE IS A CONSENSUS ON THE AMNESTY ISSUE IN BOTH THE PM AND THE MYK"

Party Spokesperson Yücel answered questions from members of the press after his statement.

Regarding a question about the 50+1 requirement in the Presidential Government System, Yücel used the expression, "With yesterday's statement, Mr. Erdoğan's concern is to protect his seat."

Saying, "I wonder how the MHP will evaluate this scenario where they are excluded and not needed?" Yücel claimed that there is a very serious crisis in the People's Alliance. Yücel said, "We see that the AKP no longer needs the MHP. Even more, it has started to see the MHP as a burden on its back."

Regarding the question about the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Assembly IYI Party Group Spokesperson Suat Sarı announcing his candidacy for the İBB Mayor from the IYI Party, Yücel noted the following:

"Of course, they can be candidates, they can be prospective candidates; as the local elections approach, there may be friends who put forward claims regarding Istanbul or other provinces or districts from the IYI Party or other parties.

We respect these. However, as the coming days, that is, the election calendar, approach, we may encounter situations such as acting together or managing the process with a joint candidate on a provincial and district basis in such events. The CHP is preparing for the elections in 81 provinces and all districts in a way that will win the elections with its own candidates."

Providing information about the local election process, Yücel said, "Our Deputy Chairman responsible for local governments and resilient cities, Mr. Gökan Zeybek, will share the details on this subject with the press and the public. However, I would like to share with you that our friends who wish to become candidates for the Republican People's Party can submit their applications between November 21 and November 28."

In response to the question about what the CHP's stance would be if the 50+1 requirement in the Presidential Government System were changed by the constitution, Yücel replied, "We will not enter into a constitutional debate with an understanding that does not recognize the constitution, violates it, and ignores the clear provisions of the constitution."

In response to the question, "CHP Chairman Özel had mentioned an amnesty for the 100th anniversary of the party. Did it come to the agenda today?" Yücel noted the following:

"A decision of principle has been taken on this matter. However, I can state that when our friends who want to benefit from the amnesty apply, their situations, that is, the concrete characteristics of the action that caused their relationship with the party to be severed, will also be taken into account, and each of those applications will be examined separately and a decision will be made.

But as a matter of principle, I can share with you that there is a consensus in both our Party Assembly and our Central Executive Board regarding the amnesty for the 100th anniversary."
