Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, the architect of the new opening process, stated that a 'National Unity Commission' should be established in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey.
Support for Bahçeli's proposal came from Republican People's Party (CHP) Diyarbakır MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu.
Referring to the legislative proposal they submitted in 2014, Tanrıkulu drew attention to the importance of updating this proposal and establishing a commission in Parliament through legislation. Tanrıkulu said, "Mr. Bahçeli's call for a National Unity Commission is very valuable and meaningful. The legislative proposal we submitted in 2014 is an important step taken on this issue and is on Parliament's agenda. The shortcomings can be updated over the time that has passed, but it is essential that the commission be established by law."
