The visit that CHP Chairman Özgür Özel announced he would make to Ahmet Özer, who is being held at Silivri Prison, has been postponed. CHP officials stated that the reason for the postponement was that the Ministry of Justice had not responded to the visit permit application.

Özel made the following remarks regarding the postponement:

"We have made a postponement. Specifically, we officially submitted our request for a meeting to the Ministry of Justice yesterday. As you know, visits to prisoners by members of parliament are carried out upon the completion of a procedure by the Ministry of Justice. Since that was not completed by the end of the workday yesterday and we were not notified, and because we did not want any disruption to occur by going there today, we are waiting for the Ministry of Justice to complete the necessary official procedure. I do not want to imply any ill intent. They surely could not finish it within working hours due to the intensity of yesterday. You know these visits can only be made during working hours. We have a request regarding the visit for Monday. We reiterated that today as well. We are waiting for this process to be carried out by the Ministry of Justice. After that, we intend to go to Silivri on Monday morning to visit our dear mayor. Our colleagues are in communication with the Ministry of Justice."

ÖZEL HAD ANNOUNCED THE VISIT

Özer was detained at his home on the morning of October 30 and was arrested by the court he was brought before. The CHP, which reacted to Özer's arrest and the appointment of a trustee to the Esenyurt Municipality, held a rally in Esenyurt yesterday. Speaking at the rally, Özel had announced that he would visit Özer.

LOCATION OF THE GROUP MEETING IN SILIVRI ALSO CHANGED

Upon the ministry's failure to respond to the application for the visit, the CHP postponed the visit until a response is received. The CHP, which had planned to hold its party group meeting in Silivri, decided to hold the parliamentary group meeting at a hotel following this development.
