Following the announcement that the Republican People's Party's (CHP) Balıkesir Karesi mayoral candidate Serpil Akgül had withdrawn from the race, the CHP's new candidate became former AKP member Mesut Akbıyık.

It has emerged that Akbıyık, who was opposed to the CHP while in the AKP, had filed a criminal complaint against Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and Özgür Özel.

AKBIYIK'S POLITICAL JOURNEY

Akbıyık served as the Balıkesir provincial chairman of the Democrat Party (DP) during the era of Süleyman Soylu. Later, he continued his political life in the AKP alongside Soylu. In 2015, he resigned from his position as a member of the Karesi Municipal Council for the AKP to run for parliamentary candidacy.

In 2019, he was a candidate for the Karesi mayoral nomination. In 2017, Akbıyık filed a criminal complaint with the Balıkesir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against the then-CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, Deputy Chairman Bülent Tezcan, and CHP parliamentary group deputy chairmen Özgür Özel, Engin Altay, and Engin Özkoç, alleging that they had links to FETÖ/PDY.

"I WILL VISIT AND APOLOGIZE"

Akbıyık broke his silence regarding the aforementioned past criminal complaints.

Speaking to Saygı Öztürk from Sözcü, Akbıyık said, "Actually, I do not want this issue to be discussed. Our application was a symbolic complaint. Furthermore, I abandoned the complaint I made after the parliamentary immunity of Kılıçdaroğlu and the others was lifted. I will visit our former Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu and our Chairman Özgür Özel as soon as possible and apologize. I have great respect for them. Even though I am an experienced politician, it was wrong for me to make our symbolic complaint as part of a crowd. Now we are focused on the election. We will win both the Metropolitan Municipality and the Karesi Municipality. We will provide excellent services."

Öztürk pointed out that Akbıyık would meet today at 14:00 in Balıkesir with CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, whom he had previously accused of being a "FETÖ member."
