CHP's proposal for retiree holiday bonus revealed

CHP Deputy Chair Gamze Taşcıer stated that the holiday bonus for retirees should be 15 thousand liras, adding, "This amount is not a favor to retirees, but a right that should already be provided so they can maintain a humane standard of living."

In a written statement, Taşcıer noted that millions of retirees are facing poverty and hunger.

Stating that people cannot make ends meet and that more than 6 million retirees, excluding those in the informal sector, are either working or looking for a job, Taşcıer remarked, "The New Year's increase given to retirees, who are supposedly 'not being crushed by inflation,' has already melted away in the very first month. Even according to the unrealistic calculations of the TUIK, the purchasing power of a retiree receiving the lowest pension has decreased by 628 liras."

Arguing that no fair decision has been made regarding pensions that would provide relief to retirees, Taşcıer noted that they had previously stated that the holiday bonus to be paid to retirees should be 15 thousand liras, and that they would continue to say so.

Gamze Taşcıer said the following:

"This amount is not a favor to retirees, but a right that should already be provided so they can maintain a humane standard of living. In an environment where inflation is this scorching, deeming three or five thousand liras worthy for retirees means abandoning citizens to misery. We used to say that tens of millions had forgotten the taste of meat; now they have reached the point where they cannot even buy eggs. The end of this path is a horrific hunger crisis."
