It had been claimed that the 11th President, Abdullah Gül, would unite the DEVA Party, the Future Party (Gelecek Partisi), and the Felicity Party (Saadet Partisi) under a single roof to form a new party.

According to a report by Ekonomim, it is alleged that Gül called AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to say that his initiative to form a party would not harm the AKP and that he had no such intention.

PREPARATION FOR THE POST-ERDOĞAN ERA

It was claimed that Gül and his inner circle are positioning themselves for the post-Erdoğan era, that Gül views a new party and politics favorably, and that he even wants to be a presidential candidate in the elections, having shared this thought with Erdoğan.

It was stated that since Erdoğan cannot be a candidate again under the Constitution unless Parliament decides on early elections, Gül wants to be a candidate in a way that would also appeal to AKP voters. On the other hand, it was alleged that Gül also wants to be the candidate of the AKP and has expressed this to his inner circle.

“HE CAN FORM A PARTY BUT HE CANNOT BE OUR CANDIDATE”

Stating that they do not take these claims seriously, AKP sources commented, “He can form a party, but he cannot be the AK Party’s candidate.”
