Claim that 'convention calculations have already begun in CHP'! 'Certain factions will try with all their might to undermine İmamoğlu'

Journalist Altan Sancar claimed during a live broadcast that convention calculations have begun within the Republican People's Party (CHP).

The Republican People's Party (CHP), which gathered on January 26 to determine its mayoral candidates and announced a portion of them, is experiencing active hours.

Following the Party Assembly (PM) meeting on January 26, Ataşehir Mayor Battal İlgezdi resigned from the CHP, alleging that a purge process is underway within the party and that figures who supported Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu at the 38th Ordinary Convention are being sidelined.

ÖZEL'S RESPONSE TO İLGEZDİ

CHP leader Özgür Özel responded to İlgezdi's claims by saying, “We have announced 900 candidates. We have nominated a large number of Alevi candidates. He needs to look at the Alevi candidates. Which Kurd has he seen being purged? There is no such thing. We nominated two of our friends who supported Mr. Kemal the most in Bursa and Balıkesir.”

İLGEZDİ ACCUSED İMAMOĞLU

In a new statement made today (January 29), İlgezdi accused İmamoğlu, stating, "Ekrem İmamoğlu expressed to me personally that he would not walk the path with me as the mayoral candidate in Ataşehir. When he conveyed this decision to me, the MYK and PM, which are our party's highest bodies and the sole authorities in determining candidates, had not yet met."

CHP'S WORK ON IZMIR CANDIDATE

While the repercussions of Battal İlgezdi's resignation and statements continue, the CHP Party Assembly (PM) will meet today at 18:00 to determine the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Mayoral candidate.

In the MYK meeting to be held before the Party Assembly, the names of the current mayor Tunç Soyer, Buğra Gökçe, and Cemil Tugay will be discussed for the Izmir candidacy.

ALTAN SANCAR: CEMİL TUGAY'S CANDIDACY SEEMS CERTAIN

Connecting to the Öncesi Sonrası (Before After) program hosted by Senem Toluay Ilgaz on Sözcü TV, journalist Altan Sancar said, “Cemil Tugay's candidacy in the CHP seems certain today.”

Evaluating the discussions within the CHP, Sancar claimed that convention calculations have begun in the party.

Stating, “A convention calculation has already begun in the CHP,” Sancar added, “The focal point where this convention calculation is locked is Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu… If Ekrem İmamoğlu emerges from Istanbul with an election victory, this convention debate will be attempted. But even if it is attempted, it is a possibility that will end before it begins.”

"THE OLD ADMINISTRATION WILL CALL FOR A CONVENTION WITH DELEGATE SIGNATURES"

Speaking on the scenario where İmamoğlu loses, Sancar said, “Let's also state the bad scenario for the CHP. Let's say İmamoğlu cannot win; then the old administration will call for a convention with delegate signatures. The basis of the discussion happening today over municipalities—be it Şişli, Ataköy, or Izmir—all of these are fundamentally based on a convention reckoning.”

"CERTAIN FACTIONS WILL TRY WITH ALL THEIR MIGHT TO UNDERMINE İMAMOĞLU"

Sancar responded to Senem Toluay Ilgaz’s question, “Will CHP organizations be able to work as a single body for the candidates during the election campaign period? For example, will they be able to work for İmamoğlu in Istanbul?” as follows:

“Let me repeat, there is a convention planning. The path of this convention planning leads to Istanbul. Certain factions will try with all their might to undermine Ekrem İmamoğlu. Because there is a desire for revenge here. There will be developments along the lines of ‘They betrayed us at the Convention, we need to go to a Convention.’ This seems inevitable.”
