Clear message from Hakan Fidan: We expect the organization to disband itself

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan answered journalists' questions following the conclusion of the 4th Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF). Minister Fidan shared details of the fifth meeting of the High-Level Security Mechanism held between Turkey and Iraq and delivered important messages regarding the terrorist organization PKK.

Stating that the calls made from Turkey and Imralı should be met with a response by the organization, Fidan said, "Everyone has two wishes: For the call made from Turkey and Imralı to be accepted by the organization, for the necessary actions to be taken, and for the organization to decide to disband itself as soon as possible."

"WORK IS BEING CARRIED OUT WITH GREAT SINCERITY"

Touching upon the Turkey-Iraq High-Level Security Mechanism meeting held within the scope of the ADF, Fidan said, "It was a truly productive meeting. Both sides presented the work done so far regarding security with great sincerity and dedication."

Emphasizing that current and potential security issues in the region were discussed, Fidan stated, "We put all topics on the table, especially the fight against terrorism. A joint statement will be made soon."

"PKK IS ALREADY A BANNED ORGANIZATION IN IRAQ"

Fidan gave the following response to a question regarding whether Iraq would officially declare the PKK a terrorist organization:

"The PKK is already being treated as a terrorist organization by Iraq at the moment. In other words, it has the status of a banned organization. Whether it is a terrorist organization or a banned organization; this is a technical distinction. It is sufficient that it is an outlawed organization. What matters is the stance taken."

Fidan stated that the calls regarding the organization have also found resonance in Iraq, adding, "Iraq is also waiting for the results of these calls. This expectation was clearly expressed at the meeting. It will also be reflected in the joint statement."

"THE AGREEMENT MUST BE IMPLEMENTED FOR STABILITY IN SYRIA"

Making assessments regarding Syria, Fidan said, "At the same time, the agreement reached with the Damascus government needs to be implemented as soon as possible. This will contribute to ensuring stability in Syria." He underscored that both sides (Turkey and Iraq) have a clear expectation in this regard.

"CONCRETE STEPS ON SINJAR ARE COMING SOON"

Responding to journalists' question, "Is there a promise of concrete steps regarding Sinjar?", Fidan stated that mutual views were expressed on this issue and that developments regarding the matter would be seen very soon.
