Communications Director Burhanettin Duran reacted to the YENİ Party Group's decision to leave the hall while President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan was addressing the TBMM General Assembly for the opening of the new legislative year.
In a statement on his social media account, Duran stated that the TBMM is the "manifestation of the national will," emphasizing that it is an institution where different political views speak and debate under the same roof and speak on behalf of the nation.
The fact that the YENİ Party Group left the hall when our President, Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, took the podium to address the General Assembly for the opening of the new legislative year is, beyond a political stance toward the Presidency, a serious disrespect to the national will, state tradition, and parliamentary customs.
Duran described the attitude in question as "an impolite and unbecoming stance that does not befit the dignity of our Veteran Parliament."
Stating that democratic politics is not merely about speaking one's own words, Duran noted that different views must be tolerated and that the President elected by the nation must be listened to in Parliament.
In his statement, Duran asserted that political disagreements should not be placed above state traditions and the common law of the Parliament, arguing that such an approach is incompatible with the understanding of democratic representation.
